Digital Transformation and Skills in Europe

Joining forces is the only way to approach this challenge

skills-you-need-netacadOur daily lives become more digital every day. The global marketplace requires all countries, cities and companies to make use of the technology and digital tools we have at our fingertips to improve the systems we use to run our economies, business and lives for more societal benefit for everyone.

This does not only sound difficult, it is difficult and complex.

The only way we can start to understand this challenge is by separating the different levels of society affected and looking at the details of each dimension and the related problems:

  • Country
  • City
  • Company
  • Citizen

Drilling down to the details allows us to understand that these changes affect all levels of our society. This is involving all of us: all professions, all citizens from the youngest to the oldest, for all cultures and all backgrounds. We need the competences, skills and abilities of every single one of us to go through these challenges.

hands-and-brainThe key to mastering lies in our education and continued education systems. The key to get through (every type of) change is learning new skills.

Digital Skills

The European Union and the OECD define the key competences for life-long learning:

  • Critical thinking
  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Collaboration

Creating learning spaces where those skills can be developed are on top of the mind of leaders. Innovative Educators engage and learn together with their students, business partners, tech experts and public stakeholders. It involves

  • collaboration of education, businesses and public institutions,/li>
  • bridges and spaces to connect ideas and work together,
  • openness and respect for each other with all our experiences.
